Sylvia L. Hughes of Cottonwood, Alabama passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017.
Mrs. Hughes was born on October 5, 1935 in Dothan, Alabama. She graduated from Cottonwood High School, attended Florida State University where she received her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, and attended Auburn University where she received her Master's in Home Economics in 1958.
During her lifetime, Mrs. Hughes was a devoted child of God, wife, mother, grandmother, school teacher, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie (William Lewis, Jr.) and Bernice Lewis, by her loving husband of 59 years, James Hughes, and by her son, James Richard Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by two sons, William (Gia) Hughes and Paul (Debbie) Hughes; her four grandsons, Cory Hughes, Christopher (Nicole) Hughes, Lucas Hughes, and Nathan Hughes.
Graveside services will be held at 9 am on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in the Hughes Family Cemetery, 202 Burl Lee Road, Cottonwood, Alabama with Rev. Ralph Sigler officiating and Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Harvest Church, 2727 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL 36305 or to Cottonwood United Methodist Church, 1331 Metcalf Street, Cottonwood, AL 36320.
Serving as active pallbearers will be William Hughes, Paul Hughes, Cory Hughes, Christopher Hughes, Lucas Hughes, Nathan Hughes, and Eddie Morris.
