Colonel Theo S. Epperson U.S. Army Ret. of 3071 Murphy Mill Rd., Dothan, AL passed away in the company of family on Thursday, 16 September 2010 at his residence. He was 74.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby Marks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.Col. Epperson was born October 11, 1935 in Dewitt, AR. He graduated from Tillar High School in Tillar, AR and received a BA from Henderson State College in Arkadelphia, AR. On October 4, 1957 he entered into a 53 year marriage to Ms. Amelia Brown of Nashville, AR. Theo entered active duty service in the United States Army in September of 1958 as an infantry officer later transferring to aviation, serving 2 tours in Vietnam; in 1965 as an OV-1 pilot and in 1971 as a CH-47 pilot and company commander. He retired from active service on 31 October 1980 and his awards include the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, 4 Air Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with X Device, Vietnamese Honor Medal First Class, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Vietnamese Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, and a Senior Aviation Badge.Col. Epperson was preceded in death by his father Everett Epperson, and his mother Cordelia Tolar Epperson.Survivors include his wife Amelia Epperson; his son and daughter-in-law Randy and Renee’ Epperson; his daughter and son-in-law Robin and John Musser; 4 grandchildren, Jake Epperson, Rachel Epperson, Cassady Musser and Kelsey Musser.Theo Epperson loved his God, his family, and his country. We will miss him dearly as he joins the Lord eternally. Burial Date: January 1, 1970Visits: 0
