Thomas J. Leiper

Thomas Joseph Leiper, a resident of Dothan, AL and formerly of New London, CT passed away on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at his residence. He was 83.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice, 2623 Montgomery Hwy., Ste. 1, Dothan, AL.Thomas was born on July 10, 1926 in New London, CT, to the late Jack and Mary Leiper. He retired from the U.S. Navy and the City of Dothan. His membership with the Dothan Elks Lodge spanned over 30 years, and he was a member of the local post of the VFW, the Taylor Senior Center, and the Rose Hill Senior Center.Mr. Leiper was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Trudy, Elaine, and Gloria, a brother Warren, and a daughter Katheryn.Surviving loved ones include his wife Joyce Leiper; a step-son Benny Holloway and his fiancé Patricia Foe; a step-daughter Brenda Herring and her husband Don; a grandson Adam Leiper; three nieces and five nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stephen Chastain and Dr. Scott McAllister for their care and support during this difficult time. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
