Thornell Conrad, a resident of Dothan passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 74 years old. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lee officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation. Mr. Conrad was born July 12, 1944 in Houston County and he resided in Cowarts the early years of his life. Mr. Conrad joined the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received the purple heart. He served over twenty years of military service and retired with the Army Reserves in 2004. Mr. Conrad was an avid reader and a huge Alabama Football fan. He was a life time member of the Disable American Veterans. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. Conrad and Lydia Reese Thornell, brother, Gerald Reese Conrad, and sister Mary B. Conrad. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Conrad; his children by marriage, Gina (Jay) Luedecke of Tallahassee, Dara (Richard) Reed of Eufaula, and John Fleming of Dothan; granddaughter, Rachel Aman of Tallahassee; sisters, Joan Creel, Mandy Virginia Durham, Myra Jo Lindley, and Patricia Ann Conrad; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Burial Date October 10, 2018 Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lee officiating.
