Tommy J. Bassett, a resident of Ashford, passed away on Friday, December 4, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was 84 years old.

A military graveside service in honor of Tommy will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at 10 am at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Allen Monarch officiating.

Tommy was born on April 29, 1936, in Ted, Mississippi to Joe and Mary (Chisholm) Bassett. He served in the military for 16 years during the Korean conflict and Vietnam War, as a helicopter pilot. Afterwards he was the owner and operator of Bassett Helicopter Service. In his free time, he was a real outdoorsman where he would spend his time with horses, deep sea fishing and camping.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jerry Bassett from Louin, MS.

Left to cherish the memories of Tommy include the love of his life for 64 years, Nell Bassett; sons, Mark Bassett (Anna) of Enterprise, AL; Don Bassett (Cathy) of Midland City, AL; daughters, Mary Evelyn Martin (Gary) of Ashford, AL; Patty Robinson (Terry) of Headland, AL; brother Danny Bassett (Faye) of Ted, MS; and sister Mary Lynda Ford of Louin, MS; grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Josh) of Ashford, AL; Christopher Martin (Kayla) of Webb, AL; Michelle Meadows (Chris) of Ashford, AL; Tera Knighton (Brad) of Headland, AL; Taylor Paulk (Joseph) of Bonifay, FL; Matthew Bassett (Emily) of Slidell, LA; Ben Bassett (Natalie) New Brockton, AL. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, and special pet Bubba.
