Velma Cox Havard, 79, of Tumbleton, AL passed away Thursday, November 24, 2011 at a local hospital.
rnFuneral services will be 10 am Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Pinckard Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Stone officiating. Burial will follow in Newton City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday at the funeral home. rnMrs. Havard was born September 16, 1932 in Ozark, AL and lived in Newton the early part of her life. She was employed as a nurse and worked at Flowers Hospital and Lyster Army Hospital until her retirement in 1981. She has been a resident of Tumbleton since 1983 and was a member of Pinckard Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and was an avid reader of Christian books. Mrs. Havard was preceded in death by her two husbands Johnny E. Cox and Allen Havard, a son Gary Cox, and a daughter Debra Ivison. rnSurvivors include her son Michael Ellie Cox of Harrisonburg, VA; a daughter Susan Guy Cox of Tumbleton, AL; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Wilton Lynell Blocker of Eufaula, AL, and Darril Peggy Blocker of Newton, AL; sisters, Betty Preston of Pinckard, AL, and Wynell Brooks of Slocomb, AL; a sister-in-law Susanna Blocker; several nieces and nephews also survive.
