Vivian Leigh Ard, known affectionately to friends and family as Vivian, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024, in Wicksburg, Alabama, at the age of 70. Born on November 15, 1954, in Roanoke, North Carolina, Vivian's zest for life, unwavering faith, and the joy she found in her family marked a life well-lived and cherished by many.
Vivian's early years in Roanoke laid the foundation for the resilient, passionate, and fiesty woman she would become. At a young age, she moved to Blakely, Georgia, and later settled in the Dothan area, where she spent 46 fulfilling years. Vivian's commitment to her community was evident through her dedicated work at Ard Plumbing and Electric, a family business where she contributed significantly to its success. Her caring nature extended to her time at Mission Point Thrift Store, where she touched the lives of those she worked with and served.
Faith played a central role in Vivian's life. She was a devoted member of Newton 1st Assembly of God Church, where her melodious voice could be heard harmonizing Christian music, a testament to her love for worship and the church community. Her faith was not confined within the church walls; Vivian was known for ministering to individuals she encountered, spreading kindness and encouragement wherever she went.
Vivian's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her sons, Robert (Misty) Ard and Jimmy (Tammy) Ard, Jr.; daughters, Vicki (Rodolfo) Proano and Danielle (Robbie) Plummer; cherished 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence Scott, Walter Scott, David Houston, and Michael Houston; sisters, Brenda Carroll and Terry Houston; and her lifelong partner, Jimmy Ard. A constellation of nieces and nephews also mourn the loss of their beloved aunt.
As a mother and grandmother, Vivian's love was profound and unwavering. She adored her grandchildren, each of whom brought immense happiness and purpose to her life.
Vivian's interests and hobbies reflected her multifaceted personality. She was known for her blunt, yet endearing communication style, with a small filter that endeared her to friends and family alike. You never had to wonder where you stood with her. A lover of music, she found solace and joy in Nashville's vibrant music scene and was equally content with the simple pleasure of a day at the beach. Vivian's hands were rarely still, as she enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family.
A celebration of Vivian's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 11 am, with Pastor Tommy Giddens officiating. Vivian will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and friendship that will continue to resonate with all who knew her. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10-11 am. Flowers are being accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Newton 1st Assembly of God Church.
Described as faith-filled and passionate, Vivian's unwavering loyalty and persistence will be deeply missed by her family, church community, and friends. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her generous spirit and the melodies of the praise and worship she so beautifully sang. Vivian Leigh Ard's life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of faith, and the value of service to others.
