Walter Edward Bennett, a resident of Dothan passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 76.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Talmadge Butler and Mr. Roy Chapel officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.Mr. Bennett was born on May 8, 1933 in Seneca County, New York and lived there the early years of his life. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Army. He returned to Seneca Falls, NY and raised and sold horses and was also employed with Parker Hannifin of Clyde, NY for 20 years. Mr. Bennett resided in Dothan since 1987 and was a foster grandparent at Rehobeth High School from 2001-2004. He was a musician and loved to play his guitar and he especially liked country western music. He also enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Woodmen of the World and the Elks Club.Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Dora Bennett. Survivors include his sons, Walter E. Bennett, Jr. of New York, Wayne Bennett of New York, Wesley Bennett of New York, Wade Bennett of New York; daughters, Julia Ticconi of New York, June Bennett of New York, Joni Dibble of New York, Joelle Angelo of New York, Mary Ellen Bennett of New York, Angelica Milan of Meridian, MS; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister Violet Bennett of New York.
