Walter Brown

October 9, 1928 — August 12, 2015

Walter Brown, Sr., 86, a resident of Midland City went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Frank Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Brown was born October 9, 1928 in Livingston, AL and lived the early part of his life there. He moved to Midland City in 1947 where he was employed with P.P. King Tire Company. For most of his working life he was a concrete finisher, until he was 80 years old. He believed in doing it the old fashioned way; with a manual labor pick, a shovel, and a 2×4. He also worked with Mikie Walding Construction until his retirement in 2009. He was an avid fisherman, a member of the Mason Lodge 276, and a member of the Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Annie Jewel Brown; a son Walter Brown, Jr.; daughters, Betty Hodges, Sylvia Collier, Sandra Hiram Claytor, Connie Harold Phillips, Tracey Brown Mitchell Edward, and Stacey Brown; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Martha Lee Brown, Lillie Jimison, and Clara Graham; several nieces and nephews.
