Walter Lewis Ludgood

November 26, 1935 — January 4, 2017

Walter Lewis Ludgood, a resident of Midland City, passed away peacefully at his residence with his wife, family and friends surrounding him on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. He was 81.

Services of Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Willie H. Elder and Eulogist and Rev. Leon May officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the services on Wednesday.

Mr. Ludgood was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, Peacetime and Gulf War Era. He served in the Army active duty from May 22, 1958-1961 and in the Army Reserve until January 22, 1995.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Georgia Miller Ludgood, his daughter, Sharon Blackmon, 2 brothers, Sam Ludgood, Jr. and Ernie Roy Ludgood, and by his sister, Annie Rose Cunningham.

Mr. Ludgood is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lena Mae Gibson Ludgood, Midland City, AL; his 3 children, Willie H. (Diane) Elder, Headland, AL, Walter Lewis (Annette) Ludgood, Jr., Northport, MS, and Larry (Robin) Ludgood, Fayetteville, NC; his 13 grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Robby May; his brothers-in-law, Willie James Gibson, Dothan, AL and Leon May, Birmingham, AL; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends also survive.
