Walter Hollis Porter, Sr. of Dothan passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 his resident of 701 Price Street following a brief illness. He was 74.
Memorial services will be held 11 am Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Valentine officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the services. rnMr. Porter was born August 17, 1935 in Houston County to the late Tullis & Elma Porter. He was served in the United States Arm Forces for several years and at the time of his discharged he held the rank of Private, USAR. Mr. Porter was employed with the City of Detroit as a bus driver for over thirty years until his retirement. He later moved back to Dothan and resided here until the time of his departure. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Yonne Underwood Porter, four brothers, Otis, Jame, John, Charles Porter; a sister, Barbra Glover.rnSurvivors include two sons, Walter Hollis Porter, Jr., and Morris Porter bother of Detroit Michigan; a grandson, Walter Hollis Porter, III, Detroit, Michigan; three brothers, Emmitt Porter, New York, New York, Tullis Porter, Jr., and his wife Nadine, Newark, New Jersey, Robert Lyn Porter, Detroit, Michigan; three sisters, Laura Smith, Syracuse, New York, Joan Thomas, Kinsey, Alabama, Sharonyonne Hollis and her husband Charles, Montgomery; two brothers-in-law, Ben Underwood, of Eula, Larry Underwood, Detroit, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Frankie Helms, Detroit, Michigan; a host of nieces and nephews.rn Burial Date: January 1, 1970Visits: 0
