William D. Knick, Sr.

April 23, 1929 — April 21, 2018

1st Sgt. (Ret) William Doyle Knick, Sr., a resident of Dothan, Alabama passed away on Saturday afternoon, April 21, 2018 at his home. He was 88. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Andrew Knick officiating. Graveside services will follow with full military honors in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10-11 am. Mr. Knick was born on April 23, 1929 and was raised in Dalton, GA where he lived until joining the US Army in 1947. He spent 21 years serving our country and loved the military life. Mr. Knick spent 2 tours in Korea, 1 in Japan, 1 in Europe, and 1 in Vietnam. He retired from the military in 1968 as 1st Sgt. After retiring from the military, he taught for 10 years at Dothan High School as an ROTC instructor, then went to the Dothan Vocational Center and worked as the carpentry and cabinet making instructor for 11 more years. Mr. Knick also had a remodeling business in Dothan. After retiring as a teacher, he continued his remodeling for many more years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and really enjoyed the Days of the Sunday School Supper Clubs. Mr. Knick was preceded in death by his wife, Andree Knick, his daughter, Rebecca Hasty, his father, Doss Knick, his mother, Corrie Knick, his brother, Ivan Knick, his sister, Maude Ketchum, and his brother, George Knick. Survivors relatives include his son, William D. Knick, Jr. (Pamela) of Dothan, AL; his sister, Vera Ann Fossett of Dalton, GA; his three grandchildren, Jennifer (Stan) Solomon of Birmingham, AL, Andrew (Kelli) Knick of Troy, AL and Gabrielle (Marshall) Hodge of Mobile, AL; his four great-grandchildren, Lude Solomon, Parker Knick, Raeleigh Knick, and Dain Hodge. Burial Date April 24, 2018
