William Jerry Phares, Sr.

William (Bill) Jerry Phares Sr., 88 passed away on August 12, 2022, while residing at the Extendicare Nursing Facility in Dothan, AL.

Born in Akron, Alabama, Bill was the son of the late William Lester and Annette True Phares. After graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, where he was on the 2nd Marine Division Football team and he served as Sergeant of the Guard. He was a graduate of Troy University and the University of Alabama receiving his B.S and master's degrees in mathematics and Computer Science. Bill spent most of his life as a resident of Decherd, TN. He retired from Arnold Air Force Base in 1995 after 35 years of service.

Bill was a lover of animals and the University of Alabama "Roll Tide." He had many hobbies including amateur radio, gardening, and building furniture for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Bill is survived by two sons, William (Jerry) (Melanie) Phares Jr. of Dothan AL, Richard (Todd) (Deborah) Phares of Monroe, GA. Grandchildren; Adria Anne (Clay) Ellenburg of Wicksburg, AL, William J. (Tripp) (Deborah) Phares lll, of Dothan, AL, Richard Todd Phares, Jr.(Rich) of Gulf Shores, AL; Robert Jackson Phares of Monroe, GA.; step grandchildren Jake Daniel Battle of Dothan, AL and Cole Brinkley Battle of Portland, OR. Five great granddaughters, Anslie, Abbie, and Alexanne Ellenburg; Mikaela and Ella Phares; Three step great grandsons, Dylan Burks, Blaine and Korbin Harp.
Brother in laws, Thomas Powers Jr. (Sonny Boy) and the late Audry Weeks of Pelham, AL and George (Ann) Weeks of Moundville, AL.

He is proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years JoAnne Weeks Phares, an infant son Thomas Robert Phares, and a brother Thomas (Tommy) Edward Phares.

A private Memorial/ Graveside Service for family will be held on a later date at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church in Akron, AL. Memorial donations/ in lieu of flowers may be made to the Mt Hebron Baptist Church, c/o George Weeks, 11 Weeks Road, Moundville, Al 35474.
