William”Bill” Southerland, 65, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday August 14, 2012 as a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held 4 pm Friday, at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Batchelor and Rev. Keener Batchelor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3pm until 4 pm Friday.
Mr. Southerland was born October 19, 1946 in Houston County and he resided most of his life in Dothan. He joined the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart. Following his military service he was employed with Chapman Homes for several years as a diesel mechanic. Mr. Southerland was preceded in death by his parents A.Y. and Hazel Southerland and his brother Eddie Southerland. He attended New Life Church.
Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Julie Southerland, Dothan; his daughters, Tamara Southerland and Loretta Southerland both of Denver, CO; his son, Chris Jena Chaney, Ashford; three grandchildren, Courtney Chaney, Caitlyn Chaney and Darian Southerland; brothers and sisters in laws, Faye Southerland, Bill and Betty Lux, Becky Osborn, Mary Williams, Jackie and Ricky Condrey, Lisa and Waylon Knighton, Calvin and Janet Owens, Amy and Scott Harrison, Billy and Joy Tice, and Rosalind and Johnny Jackson; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful canine companion, Sugar.
