Willie James Handsford

Mr. Willie James Handsford, 83, of Bainbridge, GA passed away peacefully at his home in Kinsey, AL on December 15, 2021. Willie was born on November 11, 1938, in Bainbridge, Georgia to Mr. AZ Handsford and Frances Smith. A child of a large family, having 10 siblings.

In his youth, Willie was a radio DJ and opening singer for various bands, touring across the United States. Willie's talent was singing BB King cover songs. His time and talent as a radio DJ in Miami, Florida landed him a radio DJ position in Bainbridge, Georgia, returning to his hometown.

Those who know Willie probably knew him well. He was a man who never met a stranger and always saw the good in everything. When he walked into a room his smile and kind soul always lightened the atmosphere.

Willie married Winifred Canady in 1972 and grew his family, having 5 children, Cedric, Canonero, Casey, Chris and Michael; and 2 grandchildren, Erin and Eric Tarver.

Preceding him in death are his parents; and siblings Harry Handsford, Ann Handsford, Willie Moses Smith, Willie Clarence Handsford, and Mary Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Winifred; his children Cedric (Misty) Canady, Canonero Tarver, Casey Handsford, Chris Handsford, and Michael Handsford; grandchildren Erin and Eric Tarver; several nieces and nephews; siblings Mickey Hope, Flora Jones, Patricia Wooten, Clara Jones, and Willie Charles (Daisy) Smith.

A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 1700 Barrington Rd., Midland City, AL, this Monday, December 20, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
