Winifred Hayes Stepp

Winifred Hayes Stepp, 88, of Dothan, AL passed away at her residence on Tuesday November 8, 2016 with her daughter Pamela and loved ones from SouthCare Specialty Services at her side.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Sunday November 13, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allie Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends 1 to 2 pm prior to the service.

Mrs. Stepp was born in St. Helens, Lancashire, England on June 14, 1928 to Thomas and Fannie Hayes. She was the only daughter of 9 children. Mrs. Stepp grew up in England during World War II and was buried in a hospital for five days that had been bombed by the Germans during the Battle of Britain.

She met her husband of 64 years, Wendell Stepp, while he was stationed in England during the war. After four years of courtship they were married on November 1, 1945. They moved to Akron, Ohio and raised two children, Michael and Pamela, until relocating to Dothan in 1966. She was a very dedicated mother and wife and attended First United Methodist Church of Dothan.

She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Fannie Hayes, her brothers, her husband Wendell Stepp and son Michael. She is survived by her daughter Pamela; grandchildren, Jeni, Michelle, Bryce Jason and daughter-in-law Kitty Stepp.

Winifred loved to read, sew, garden and travel. She was very proud of the accomplishments of her family, and she helped them a great deal.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions in memory of Winifred Stepp can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
