Claire T. Rice, a resident of Abbeville, Alabama passed away on Monday, October 10, 2022 at her residence. She was 80.
A private graveside service will be held in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Joey Hudspeth officiating. Sunset Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Safe Haven ARK, PO Box 126, Abbeville, AL 36310.
Claire was born on August 8, 1942 in Holbrook, MA to Edward and Helen (Shanahan) Marble. She was a nurse for the City of Boston at Long Island Hospital in Quincy, MA. Claire was a nurse for 40 years. After retirement, Mrs. Rice was the matron for the East Bridgewater Police Department. She and her husband briefly moved to the Florida area and then relocated to Abbeville, Alabama where they made there forever home. Claire had a servant's heart and enjoyed rescuing animals in need. For several years, she and her husband were the managers of the Safe Haven Animal Rescue Kennels (SHARK) in Abbeville, Alabama.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, John Marble, George Marble, Helen Lynch, Dorothy Mahoney, Joan Kurr and Mary Lou Cribben.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, David Rice; her children, George, Mark, Gail, and Steven; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her siblings, William Marble, Thomas Marble, Patricia Cerrato and Gail Richards; and her seven rescue dogs.
