Keith H. Matthews, a resident of Dothan, AL, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2023, following an extended illness. Born in Hartford, Alabama on December 13, 1941, Keith was a man of many talents, a loving family man, and a friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Keith was a beloved husband to his wife, Barbara Knowles Matthews, and an adored father to his daughter, Tiffini Matthews, and stepson, Brandon (Rita) Ward. He was also a cherished grandfather to Scott (Kelsey) Ward, Michael (Katie) Pittman, Jennifer and Jessica Padgett; and a doting great-grandfather to Brendan Short, Kaleb Ward, Ava Padgett, Khloe Baker, Fletcher Ward, Samson Ward, and Aiden Pittman. He was blessed to meet his great-great-grandchild, Arzaylea Burk. Keith is survived by his sisters, Penny Bonner and Jackie Cobb. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anabeth Berry and Peggy Simon. Keith also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
Keith was a proud patriot who served his country honorably in the US Army for three years after graduating from high school. Following his military service, he utilized his Bachelor's Degree in Management to start his own Lawn Maintenance and Landscape Business. His dedication to his work was evident in the beautiful landscapes he created, and he took great pride in his business.
A man of many interests, Keith was known as a "Jack of all trades". He had a passion for gardening and loved to grow his own vegetables and flowers. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed yard work and spending time in nature. He was also a keen card player who loved the challenge and camaraderie of a good game. Family was central to Keith's life, and he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He was a huge Alabama fan, often heard cheering, "Roll Tide!"
Keith was an active member of the Bay Springs Baptist Church, where he served faithfully and made many lifelong friends. His unwavering faith was an inspiration to those around him.
Described as kind, handy, and selfless, Keith was the kind of man who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His generosity of spirit and willingness to help others were hallmarks of his character. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the community, he served so well.
A celebration of Keith's life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Green and Rev. Cliff Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10-11 am.
