Martha Nix, 76, formerly of Dothan passed away Monday February 7, 2022, in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday, February 12, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, Dothan, Alabama with Bishop Lawson Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church one hour prior to services.
Martha was born in Atlanta, Georgia on October 16, 1945, to the late Walter and Mary C. Morris. She was the youngest of 4 children and was very close with her siblings Jack, Larry, and Mary. She met the love of her life, the late James Carlton Nix, Jr from Columbia, AL in high school and they wed during college on August 22, 1964. She transferred from Stephens College in Missouri to Auburn where she graduated. Following graduation, Martha became a teacher and then a mother all while remaining close with her family no matter how far away Jim's career would take them. Martha loved to travel, play tennis, bridge and throw a great party. She was an avid sports fan and although an Auburn graduate, she was a die-hard Alabama football fan - Roll Tide! Martha also enjoyed spending quality time with her friends and helping others. She has participated and served in leadership roles for many Dothan clubs. The other loves of her life were watching her grandchildren grow up and getting to spend time with them. She enjoyed supporting their varied extracurricular activities and traveling to their events over the years.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, James Carlton Nix, Jr., her parents Mr. & Mrs. Walter C. Morris, her daughter, Helen Carla Nix; her sister, Mary Morris Juergens; her brother, Walter "Jack" Morris, her sister-in-law, Glenda Morris; her nephew, Landy Morris; her nephew, James "Jim" Thomas Joyce, Jr.
Martha leaves behind her son, James "Jim" Carlton Nix, III his wife Lynn and her grandchildren, Sydney, James, Elizabeth and Michael; her daughter, Mary and her husband Dee Mauldin; her brother, Larry Morris and his wife Joann and their son, Joey Morris and his family; her nephew, Walter Joyce and his wife Nancy and their family; her nephew, Jackie and Jan Morris and their family; her niece, Marilyn and Thomas Howard and their family, her niece, Marybeth and Stephen Lloyd and their family, and her nephew, Ross and Melissa Morris and their family.
