Tom Anderson, a resident of Dothan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 10, 2022 lovingly surrounded by his family. He was 81 years old.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Logos Baptist Church with Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Logos Baptist Church on Tuesday evening from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Logos Baptist Church, 736 S. Shady Lane, Dothan, AL 36301 or to The Ark Dothan, 475 W. Main St., Dothan, AL or thearkdothan.org.
Tom was born on April 22, 1941 in Aiken, South Carolina and lived there the early years of his life. He and his brother, John farmed cotton and soybeans and at night he worked in the textile mill. The Lord called Tom to become a minister and in 1972 he moved to Dothan. He attended the Baptist Bible Institute and after his graduation he would become the pastor at Springfield Baptist Church in Jakin, Georgia. In 1978 Tom would begin his ministry at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church where he would serve until his retirement in 2007. Since his retirement Tom has served as interim pastor at various churches throughout the Wiregrass Area including Graceville, FL, Ozark, AL, and Elba, AL. Tom truly had a special passion for those in need, he spoke regularly at The Haven, he served as Chaplain in Service at Southeast Health, and ministered at The Ark Dothan. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord Jesus Christ and making Him known.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Irene Brown Anderson; his son, David (Stephanie) Anderson; his three daughters, June (Kim) Bond, Mary (Keith Jackson) Walker, and Pam (Scott) Shields; his 12 grandchildren, Lydia Walker, Magan (Joseph) Parker, Matthew (Christine) Bond, Jacob (Brooke) Walker, Maggie Anderson, Abbey (Luke) Mitchell, Luke Anderson, Catherine (Micah) King, Anderson Shields, Brady Shields, Garrett Shields, and Madelyn Shields; his 7 great grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn Bazzle; his sister-in-law, Martha Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a huge thank you to his caregivers Mary Flowers, Kim Lovelace, Jerry Rabb, and Kelly Wilson for their compassion, love, and care shown to them in their time of need.
